Dr. Foti of the American Association for Cancer Research to Speak at Scientific Assembly of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons
PHILADELPHIA — Margaret Foti, Ph.D., M.D. (h.c.), chief executive officer of the American Association for Cancer Research, will participate in a panel discussion at the 24th Annual Scientific Assembly of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS) here on Saturday. The panel is titled: “Academic Excellence, Mentorship and Leadership in Healthcare: Surgical Faculty Ascension and Attrition in Academic Medicine.”
“I am very honored to participate in a discussion of the professional advancement challenges facing this illustrious group of black academic surgeons today,” Foti said. “Minority academicians experience greater problems in their careers than their colleagues because of persistent limitations in their access to educational opportunities, mentorship, and funding, and we need to turn this around for the good of patients. I look forward to a stimulating discussion.”
The three-day SBAS meeting is being hosted by the Temple University School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Department of Surgery.
