American Association for Cancer Research Accepting Nominations for 2014 Margaret Foti Award

PHILADELPHIA — The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) announces a call for nominations for the Eighth Annual AACR Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research.

The AACR Margaret Foti Award was established in 2007 in honor of Margaret Foti, Ph.D., M.D. (h.c.), chief executive officer of the AACR. This award recognizes a true champion of cancer research who embodies the sustained commitment of Margaret Foti to the prevention and cure of cancer. The award is given to an individual whose leadership and extraordinary achievements in cancer research or in support of cancer research have made a major impact on the field. Such achievements include contributions to the acceleration of progress in cancer research, raising national or international awareness of cancer research, or other demonstrations of a sustained commitment to the conquest of cancer.

The recipient of the AACR Margaret Foti Award will be honored at the opening ceremony of the AACR Annual Meeting 2014, which will be held April 5-9 in San Diego, Calif., and will receive a $10,000 honorarium.

Last year’s award was presented to Robert C. Young, M.D., president of RCY Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. Young was recognized for his pioneering work in the fields of lymphoma and ovarian cancer, and for his leadership roles in multiple organizations.

Candidacy is open to all individuals who are affiliated with any institution that supports cancer research or any institution involved in cancer research, cancer medicine, or cancer-related biomedical science. Such institutions include those in academia, industry, or government. The award will be presented to an individual investigator; institutions and organizations are not eligible.
