A UNIQUE AND FOCUSED CONFERENCE TO HIGHLIGHT ADVANCES IN UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS
WASHINGTON, D.C., SEPT. 18-21, 2011

What:
The Fourth AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved will bring together scientists to share the latest findings in genetics, epidemiology and treatment methods to better meet the needs of underserved populations. Cancer continues to strike minorities at a disproportionate rate, but leading researchers are working on ways to better understand the causes and offer solutions.

The conference, scheduled for Sept. 18-21, 2011 in the nation’s capitol, will feature hundreds of abstracts and dozens of selected presentations, including:

•    new data on the role of stress in aggressive breast cancer;
•    the effect of depression on screening rates in minority women;
•    factors that influence mammography rates in minority populations;
•    strategies for overcoming cultural barriers in patient communication;
•    the role of microRNA in cancer disparities; and
•    late-breaking genetic research on leukemia and childhood brain cancers.
